Robust definitions; Waiting.

Updated: Sep 28, 2021

I remember when I was younger, waiting filled me with anticipation. I would peek through the blinds of our front window, hoping that the package, the present, or the card I was expecting would arrive. It was fun and exciting at first. Then over time, it began to get boring. I would become paralyzed and stiff, staring at the ceiling for hours. Eventually, the package would arrive, and excitement would ensue. Sometimes, however, the packages or cards did not arrive, and waiting for something was how I spent my entire day.

There are many things in our lives that we are waiting for. We wait for someone to call us back, we wait for paperwork to be processed; the things where we can do nothing but wait until the ability to take action is ours again.

Another definition of the word wait is the term "waiter". It is the action of you waiting upon something. You check if the conditions necessary for the goal are in place. In, affect you become an active participant rather than a passive observer.

Waiting means making sure that five new people see your website a day by sending out more emails.

Waiting for a significant other could mean making sure you have adequate conflict resolution or anger management skills to promote a healthy relationship when they arrive.

We see this active form of waiting when a baby is on the way. The parents don't passively wait for the child to be born and buy a crib and necessities. They wait by building a nursery and stocking up on diapers in anticipation of meeting those needs the instant they arrive.

What could change in our lives if we actively waited for things rather than passively waiting?
